AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – In 2020, when COVID-19 hit, many businesses were affected, forcing them to close and postpone events, including weddings, resulting in a massive backlog even today. today.

“I would say this year we had at least about a 50% increase from 2020. When COVID hit and we lost half of our season. It just varies because a lot of the weddings we’ve lost have been postponed to 2021 and 2022,” said Shelia Chick, owner and operator of Destiny’s Garden.

Wedding venues have reported an increase of up to 50% this season, due to the backlog of weddings delayed by COVID-19 not allowing large gatherings and forcing venues to find ways to combat the surge.

“People who decide to book again from 2020, they go ahead and take days other than Saturday. We had weekends where we did three in a row,” Shelia Chick said.

Venues have gotten creative to ensure they are able to handle brides and their needs, including opening more often to ensure their days are always perfect.

“This year we had an increase in that we also have weddings on Mondays, we have had weddings on Thursdays this year which is something out of the normal. It’s just that we’ve been busier, we’re just trying to provide the best services possible and we’ve expanded the schedule to do more than just weekend weddings,” Shelia Chick said.

We contacted other sites in the Amarillo area, but received no response.
