How to Succeed as a Wedding Photographer

Amateur photographer spoke to Rima Barakeh, marriage expert and deputy editor of on what it takes to stand out as a photographer in such a competitive market:

“The best way to break into a condensed market is to increase your visibility to potential consumers, whether by advertising in a market directory, increasing your social media presence, or paying for advertising. somewhere else.

In addition to visibility, it is important to network. Although the wedding industry may seem vast, it is actually quite a tight-knit circuit and by networking with other wedding and professional photographers, you increase the likelihood of a recommendation.

If a photographer is not available to photograph a couple’s date, they will often recommend other photographers. Many wedding venues and vendors also work with a particular circle of wedding vendors and when couples hire their services, they often ask for recommended vendors. The third way to really increase your chances of being a successful wedding photographer seems obvious – but it’s all about the imaging.

Couples will only book you if they like your pictures. Make sure your digital “storefront” showcases the absolute that your business has to offer. »

Wedding photography bounces back after Covid

With so many photographers competing for business, is the industry saturated? Not according to Rima Barakeh:

“Not only have we seen the number of weddings per year increase both before and after the pandemic, but we are now seeing a trend towards ‘consecutive’ weddings – where couples have an intimate ‘legal’ wedding, followed by a more big party for their closest friends and family at another time – meaning there is now potentially twice as much demand as before the pandemic for wedding vendors.

On the contrary, with the industry rebounding as well as it has since before 2020, and with wedding spending up 90%, now would be a great time to get into the wedding industry!

Our annual National Wedding Survey found an increase in spending on wedding photographycouples really spending on the things that are most important to them – in this case, creating (and keeping!) memories of their big day.

People are going to keep getting married, having weddings, and wanting lasting memories of those special occasions. While wedding styles, traditions and trends may change, the desire to want to get married and have a professionally captured day will not.

There’s a reason wedding photography is in such demand; as a large group of boys once said, “Let reason be love”.
