Luckily for Yorkshire brides and grooms, God’s Own County is full of stunning venues for your big day, from grand country mansions to romantic barns and even a vineyard.

And recent wedding awards have crowned the best wedding venues in Yorkshire – chosen by the happy couples themselves.

Eleven of 11 Yorkshire venues have managed to win a Hitched Wedding Award after winning beaming praise from the bride and groom who got married there.

So which sites came out on top?

North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire came out on top in Yorkshire, with five sites winning an award.

Howsham Hall in York is described as “a real gem of a country house” perfect as a wedding venue.

It is actually between Harrogate and York and the wedding venue is one of the largest in Europe.

The couples described the staff as a ‘pleasure to work with’ and shared how their day had gone smoothly and exactly how they wanted it.

Thicket Priory describes itself as a ‘romantic and ethereal country house’ and boasts an impressive 18 acres.

Couples say the attention to detail is second to none, and the size of this one meant they had rooms for all of our guests.

The Normans is an 18th century farmhouse just outside York. Led by husband and wife team Oliver and Laura Robinson, the duo are hailed for their professionalism, quality and responsiveness.

A common quote from couples who have used the space said it was “everything they could have hoped for”.

Impressively, this venue is located on the estate of the Duke of Devonshire’s Bolton Abbey in the Yorkshire Dales.

It is authorized for civil wedding ceremonies and can accommodate up to 200 guests.

The team are praised by couples for being “considerate, gentle and professional throughout”.

Thirsk Lodge Barns is still a fairly new venue and has actually only had about four weddings. That didn’t stop them from snagging a prize though – not too far from Thirsk town center but still far enough that you are surrounded by stunning countryside.

South Yorkshire

Whirlowbrook Hall is based in Sheffield and was once an Edwardian country mansion.

It sits in Whirlow Brook Park and is only four miles from Sheffield city centre.

The staff are popular with couples saying, “Nothing was too much trouble for them”.

Halifax Hall in Sheffield is described as a premier boutique hotel and wedding venue.

It falls within the University of Sheffield village of Endcliffe, meaning it’s only a short drive from Sheffield city centre.

The couples say their outdoor setup is brilliant and well run.

West Yorkshire

The Chilli Barn is located in Otley, just on the edge of Chevin Forest Park, overlooking Lower Wharfedale.

The couples have two days for their wedding, which means they have time to relax and the couples say it makes “an amazing place to have a nice and relaxing wedding”.

The Holmfirth Vineyard and Sheveling Wine Estate is family owned and is located in the hills of the Holme Valley.

The couple call it “fabulous” and praise the staff for anticipating every need.

The Polar Country Inn

Dropping into the picturesque village of Pipponden, the couples are surrounded by the rolling hills of the Ryburn Valley.

It also functions as a pub and restaurant, but has a stone barn where they are licensed for the most important “I Do’s”.

There is room for up to 110 guests.

The Woodman Inn

Located in Thunderbridge, West Yorkshire, they have two distinct rooms including the Country Pub, which is suitable for weddings of up to 60 guests or the Garden Room, which is suitable for weddings of up to 150 guests.

Couples say the owners are lovely and friendly, with the food ‘heavenly’.
