3 Rustic Wedding Venues You Should Know

Context and framework

The romantic ambiance of eco-friendly Silchester Farm is apparent as soon as you walk up the tree-lined driveway, which offers endless views of the surroundings. Couples can get married in the 400-year-old oak-beamed barn adorned with twinkling garlands, but if you’re looking for something even more rustic, the Dutch barn provides the perfect backdrop, with guests seated and among the vegetable gardens. After the ceremony, guests can enjoy drinks and canapes in The Old Henhouse and stroll through the landscaped gardens, courtyards and verdant fields before gathering in The Cow Shed for the main event. If a religious ceremony is a priority, the nearest church is St Mary The Virgin, just minutes away.

food drink

Silchester Farm’s cuisine is a relaxed and luxurious celebration of modern British cuisine and all menus are prepared by its resident chef. Sample menus include dishes like crispy Hampshire duck confit, cucumber ribbons, mouli and cilantro to start; baked hake fillet, Hampshire chorizo and potato stew, Swiss chard and salsa verde for the main course; and forced rhubarb and ginger pavlova with orange granita for dessert. As well as caterers, couples are also welcome to bring in as many outside vendors as they like – although the venue offers a selection of recommended names if you’re not sure where to start.

Numbers and accommodation

Silchester Farm is an exclusive rental and prices vary between £3,950 and £9,950 depending on the time of year and number of guests. The maximum capacity is 140 people for the ceremony, the wedding breakfast and the evening. The venue can also accommodate up to 27 people in on-site accommodation. The Honeymoon Suite is included in the venue rental price – a chef-prepared breakfast will be freshly delivered to your door the day after your wedding.

Couples are encouraged to visit Silchester Farm for a visit, and once they have chosen a preferred date, the venue will hold it for seven days with no obligation. Within this timeframe, it is suggested that you check with the registrar, celebrant or church to check availability. If you decide to go ahead, you will need to complete a booking form and return it with a 50% deposit.

Emergency plan

Silchester recently installed air conditioning in The Cow Shed to keep everyone cool in the summer or warm and cozy in the winter. In the rest of the buildings there is underfloor heating, but if the weather really takes an unexpected turn, the team can change the plan on the morning of your wedding.
